Greater Victoria broke daily heat records this time last year

Sunny skies and slight breeze draw folks to the water off Oak Bay during a mid-May warm spell.

Clouds are expected to roll in Wednesday (May 15) with cooler weather and 30 per cent chance of rain Thursday, according to Environment Canda.

Last year this time the region experienced record-breaking heat, with the high temp for May 15 at Gonzales Point set at 30.3 C in 2023.

The UVic weather station also recorded a record that day, 29.1 C.

North Saanich During Greater Victoria’s first heat wave of 2023 North Saanich proved among the hottest of spots that day in 2023. Between 6 and 7 a.m., the Saanichton Canadian Food Inspection Agency site was the hottest spot in Canada at 20.3 C, according to Environment Canada, which tracks the hottest and coldest hourly temperatures.

It followed a daily temperature record broken the day before when nearby Victoria International Airport hit 28.2 C breaking the 2016 record of 26.8 C.
