UPDATE: Firearm seized in 3-hour call to Central Saanich BC Housing building

Crisis negotiator called to Aurora building near Prosser and East Saanich roads

One man may face charges after a gun call to a building on East Saanich Road Wednesday (Sept. 25) morning in Central Saanich.

The police service was called to a building at Prosser and East Saanich roads shortly after 9 a.m. regarding “a male with a firearm entering a building,” Central Saanich Police Deputy Chief Kevin Hackett told the Peninsula News Review.

Central Saanich and Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team officers attended and contained the scene and evacuated residents from the building.

Officers blocked East Saanich Road between Prosser and Hovey roads outside the 38-unit supportive housing building and asked passersby to remain away from the building. The Aurora is owned by BC Housing and operated by Pacifica Housing.

Crisis negotiators were brought in and successfully communicated with an individual who was arrested shortly after noon, Hackett said.

A BC Emergency Health Services call, with ambulance arriving during the incident, did complicate the situation but was unrelated.

A firearm was seized and Central Saanich Police Service continues to investigate the incident with the intent to forward charges to the Crown.
