Greater Victoria candidates hit campaign trail ahead of spring election

Dozens of Greater Victoria candidates are kicking off their five-week campaigns after new Prime Minister Mark Carney dissolved Parliament and called a snap election, where Canadians will take to the polls on April 28.

Over the few weeks, electoral ridings will become figurative war zones as candidates vie for one of the 343 seats in the House of Commons that are up for grabs.

Vancouver Island is home to seven of those ridings, four of which are in the Capital Region. The declared candidates in Greater Victoria ridings as of March 25 are:

Cowichan–Malahat–Langford

Kathleen Code – Green Party

Dagmar Goeschick – People’s Party

Jeff Kibble – Conservative Party

Alistair MacGregor (incumbent) – NDP

Esquimalt–Saanich-Sooke

Grant Cool – Conservative Party

Robert Crooks – Communist Party

Nikita Heurier – People’s Party

Maja Tait – NDP

Saanich–Gulf Islands

David Beckham – Liberal Party

Raymon Farmere – People’s Party

Elizabeth May (incumbent) – Green Party

Cathie Ounsted – Conservative Party

Colin Plant – NDP

Victoria

Laurel Collins (Incumbent) – NDP

Michael Doherty – Green Party

Will Greaves – Liberal Party

David Mohr – People’s Party

Angus Ross – Conservative Party

The election will be held on Monday, April 28, with polls open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Advance voting days will be from Friday, April 1 to Monday, April 21, with polls open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
