The Victoria HarbourCats, Nanaimo NightOwls and Vancouver Island Soccer League (VISL) just announced a strategic partnership designed to help the three organizations grow.
From now on, the previously distinct groups will promote each others’ schedules.
“Baseball fans are soccer fans, and soccer fans are baseball fans – it’s about supporting quality programs on the Island and furthering awareness," VISL’s executive director Vince Greco said in a news release.
The soccer league, which organizes programming and championships, stands to benefit most from the partnership. Next season, the baseball teams' promotion of the soccer league will reach thousands of soccer fans – combined, the HarbourCats and the NightOwls drew over 100,000 spectators last year – who may choose to join the league.
The baseball teams stand to benefit, too. VISL will promote upcoming ball games to its 6,000 participants.
“The atmosphere at HarbourCats and NightOwls games showcase the top fan engagement on the Island – a true gathering point in our communities,” added Greco in the same news release.
The organizations will also collaborate to offer youth sports opportunities on the Island.
