"This award-winning musical reimagines Cinderella – one of the world’s most beloved characters – with a refreshingly quirky, irreverent twist," says the CCPA.

The Canadian College of Performing Arts (CCPA) is bringing a famous fairy tale to life in downtown Victoria next month.

Directed and choreographed by Victoria’s own Naomi Costain, and performed by the College’s students, the CCPA will kick off its eight-performance run on April 18 at the McPherson Playhouse on Centennial Square.

"This award-winning musical reimagines Cinderella – one of the world’s most beloved characters – with a refreshingly quirky, irreverent twist," the CCPA said in a news release. "The production features the incredible music of Rodgers and Hammerstein and a new book by playwright Douglas Carter Beane. With stunning visuals, tongue-in-cheek humour, stagecraft and real magic, this is a walk down memory lane for the whole family."

Jeff Poynter, who has assembled an orchestra for the production with the support of the Victoria Conservatory of Music and the University of Victoria, will take the reigns of the play's music production.

"For the third year in a row, Jeff has put together an orchestra made up of University of Victoria music department students working with professional mentors," the CCPA added in the same news release. "This is an exciting educational opportunity for the students as they can apply their training in a real-world situation and at the same time, network with professionals in their field as well as students from CCPA."
