A team of Camosun College students took first place at the 2025 HRC West Case Competition, Western Canada’s leading human resources challenge, held March 14-15 in Edmonton.

Competing against 19 post-secondary institutions from B.C. and Alberta, Hillary Carr, Dex Owen, Miracle Obimba, and Roxy Hemlock stood out with their approach to a case involving workplace bullying, harassment, and diversity issues.

Their solution integrated legal considerations, diversity support strategies, and conflict resolution.

"The competition tested every aspect of our HR knowledge," said Obimba. "The experience showed us exactly what it takes to succeed in real-world HR scenarios."

Faculty coach Aidan Dumaisnil credited the team’s diverse perspectives and collaboration for their success.

“Their success was driven not only by their hard work and dedication but also by their ability to leverage their strengths. With a team representing different backgrounds and perspectives, they approached challenges with creativity, adaptability, and strategic thinking," said Dumaisnil.

Camosun outperformed other schools, including the University of Alberta, Simon Fraser University, and Vancouver Island University.
