The Dover Bay Dolphins won the North Island championship, and will now hoop it up with all the other top senior AAAA boys' basketball teams on Vancouver Island.

Dover won the North Island tourney with relative ease this past weekend in the Nanaimo District Secondary School gym, defeating G.P. Vanier 102-79 in the final Saturday, Feb. 15. The host NDSS Islanders placed third, beating Quw'utsun 107-84 earlier that evening.

Dover and NDSS both qualify for Island championships, to be held at the Dover Bay Secondary School gym from Thursday to Saturday, Feb. 20-22.

Also winning a North Island championship this past weekend were the Wellington Wildcats in the senior AAA boys' basketball playoffs. The John Barsby Bulldogs were eliminated from playoffs at that tourney, which was played at Alberni District Secondary School.

The Nanaimo Christian School Trail Blazers senior A boys won a North Island championship the previous weekend, Feb. 6-8, in their home gym, defeating Ucluelet by an 83-62 score.

The senior A boys' Island championships will be held at NCS from Feb. 20-22.
