Comox Valley ski instructor Keith Nicol got a note from Google recently.
As a ski instructor, Nicol has taken to Youtube to help people improve various aspects of their skiing. Nicole's first video was posted 17 years ago, showing footage of Polar Bears in Canada's Arctic. However he quickly found his niche with instructional ski content. Almost three hundred videos later, Nicol got a special notification from Google, the company that owns Youtube, congratulating him on getting his 5 millionth viewer.
"I am not sure at what levels Youtube sends out these notes but this is my first," Keith reports. "This year has also been a big year for the channel since we have added more than 1,500 new subscribers and now have over 14,000 subscribers in total. During February the you tube videos would typically get 3,000 views per day. The main countries that view my videos are Canada, the US, Norway, Sweden and Finland and I am pleased so many Nordic countries view my videos."
He is also close to getting one million views on his most popular video, called "Cross or X Country Skiing-Free Skate Technique."
While his instruction can be found world-wide and all year on Youtube (he has some warm weather roller ski training videos as well), those interested can get the real deal from the man himself on Mt. Washington. He teaches at the Mount Washington's Nordic Centre and runs CANSI ski instructor courses and well as staff training for the resort's cross country ski instructors.
