VIDEO: Top cyclists race through Victoria streets in display of raw speed

Cyclists from across Canada competed in a 3-day event featuring 3 different races

Canada’s top masters cyclists geared up last weekend as Greater Victoria hosted the 2025 Canadian Masters Road Cycling Championships from Aug. 8-10, the second year in a row the event has come to the Capital Region.

The three-day event featured a time trial in North Saanich, a road race in Metchosin, and a high-speed criterium in downtown Victoria.

Men’s riders competed across four age-based categories, while the women’s field was divided into three.

“These events are not only a celebration of performance but also reflect the reach and vitality of cycling in Canada," said Jen Eaton, events and officials manager at Cycling Canada.

Racing opened Friday, Aug. 8 with the individual time trial – a test of raw speed and pacing over two laps of a 20-kilometre course.

On Saturday, Aug. 9, the action shifted to Metchosin for the road race, featuring multiple laps of a rolling 10-kilometre loop.

The championships wrapped up Sunday, Aug. 10 with the criterium – a fast, spectator-friendly circuit race around a one-kilometre downtown loop surrounding the Legislature.

The best recorded time for this event was from Ontario’s Greg Boileau in the Masters B Men (45-54) class, who led the group, finishing in 50:51.10. Quebec’s Nathalie Champagne recorded the best Masters Women overall time at 46:51.08.
