West Shore Rebels players joined up with Victoria Spartans minor football players during game introductions last season. The Rebels will be running the sticks on the sidelines and acting as water boys for a day of minor football at Westhills Stadium this Sunday.

Members of the West Shore Rebels will be running the sideline sticks  and doling out water to pre-atom, atom and pee wee footballers Sunday (June 1) at Goudy Field, as part of Football Day on the Island.

Given that June 1 is national signing day for junior football, the B.C. Football Conference club will also have players signing their official  registration papers.

Cindy Bowles, president of the Greater Victoria Minor Football Association, said the connection between the players aged seven to 13 and the Rebels players is huge. “This shows them that they all started somewhere,” she said. “A lot of them came through community football.”

The games pit the Westshore Warriors against the Sooke Seahawks at 11 a.m. (pre-atom), 1 p.m. (atom) and 3 p.m. (pee wee).
