I was recently sitting in a coffee shop on Beacon Avenue enjoying where I live. Three RCMP officers walked across the street together, dressed in black from head to foot, wrapped in bulletproof vests and equipment/weapon belts, looking like something from the Dark Side.

These days, when I open my newspaper I’m always wondering whether it’s the last time I’ll get to read my favourite column or get a story about what’s happening in our community. Due to years of government inaction and the hostility of big foreign players, Canada’s news industry is dying.

There are groups intentionally interfering with the OCP review in North Saanich by spreading false information and intimidating others. The municipality began gathering community input, but when support for sensitive infill and development to meet the housing needs of our community emerged through the first phases of engagement, a small group of indignant people who oppose any development began to spread misinformation to obstruct the engagement process.

Africans displaced by civil war, living in refugee camps, must spend hours finding a medical tent that is open, then spend more hours waiting in line so they can see a doctor and get needed medicine.

Cigarettes start fires because the manufacturers put chemicals in them, so they won’t stop burning.

The controversy surrounding the North Saanich official community plan is all about density. Let’s have a referendum to find out what the majority wants. Do you want more density in North Saanich? Yes or No.

I wrote a letter published July 22, Development putting a strain on infrastructure, where I raised concerns about climate change and precious water resources. My letter was on page A6, and on page A15 there was a Notice to Electors from the CRD to borrow $46 million.

The Oak Bay Marine Group, who have managed the property for many years, has been selected to redevelop the area known as Spewhung/Turkey Head.

Further to the March 18 letters to the editor, which included Hood Canal castoff not wanted, your July 15 edition, which included a picture of the proposed floating Beacon wharf, confirms my objection.

I am responding to the news that the provincial government is paying out $50 million to support tourist attractions. I find it odd that there is money for the forest museum, but not for the forests. I find it odd that there is money for water parks, but not for watersheds.
