I plop keyboard in laptop to second the opinion of Kahlan Arnold of Saanich in favour of extending the franchise to vote to those aged 16 and 17 years. It is about time.

It’s hardly surprising that the letter from Don Enright regarding the North Saanich OCP is flawed. Mr. Enright is against any housing or further development In North Saanich. The last development-driven council was just doing what previous councils failed to do in the past several years, have a gradual infill of housing in the area. It was basically catch up but it did look like over development to most people.

Saanich council recently considered a motion to begin the process of banning gas-powered leaf blowers. The motion was presented by Mayor Fred Haynes, in response to a petition signed by hundreds of Saanich residents, which I submitted to council.

The Oak Bay marina lease renewal provides an opportunity to rename both the marina itself the Oak Bay Municipal Marina, and Turkey Head walkway and parking lot Spewhung Park.

I would like to thank Lynda Comber for taking the time to draw attention to the problem of ivy threatening our local trees.

The Canadian government continues to fight a court action that they lost, appealing the decision of the court that found there was willful and reckless discrimination against Indigenous children.

To the two Indigenous people at Salty’s on Goldstream on June 5: I don’t know your names, and I’m not even sure you’ll see this, but I hope that this might somehow reach you because I owe you (and many, many others) an apology.

Concerns are growing about the process council is using to determine the future of the Oak Bay marina lease, which expires next year, and the redevelopment of the adjacent Spewhung/Turkey Head lands and waters.

So out at Fairy Creek, people old enough to know better show young people that it is moral to be violent as long as your emotions suggest your religion is correct.
