I really took offense with Chris Campbell’s opinion column in the Feb. 9 Oak Bay News. While I agree that Victoria has a lack of missing middle housing options, the approach that Mr. Campbell has taken is very one-sided.

On Jan. 16 Mayor Peter Jones excluded Coun. Phil DiBattista from the Mayor’s Official Community Plan Advisory Committee “MOCPAC” while appointing other councillors to multiple sub-committees. Mayor Jones stated he was punishing Coun. DiBattista because he felt the councillor’s internal email of Dec. 8, 2022 was disrespectful. He noted that his views and those of Coun. DiBattista were diametrically opposed.

Thank you for introducing Chris Campbell to your readers. My thoughts would be to ask him, through you, how well he knows, or perhaps it would be better said understands, the Black Press readers in his new home.

I am writing in response to Chris Campbell’s Feb. 8 column about the densification of single-family neighbourhoods, euphemistically (and cleverly) called “the missing middle” by its proponents and the pro-development lobby.

I have just finished reading the column by Chris Campbell in the Feb. 8 Saanich News about Noisy NIMBYs and the “devisive” missing middle plan.

A brochure from Fortis BC arrived in my mailbox. FortisBC is a purveyor of natural gas. I was told there are five reasons I should switch to natural gas: 1. cost savings; 2. environmental benefits; 3. renewable natural gas; 4. comfort, convenience and reliability; and 5. get connected for as little as $15.

Unless city council sharpens its pencils, the poorest amongst us will face the greatest property tax hikes.

The Esquimalt and Vic West communities have been defeated by the split vote passed by half the municipal council to allow a five-storey condo with 40+ units to be built in the middle of established family homes whose residents expected to stay and raise their families.
