A teen driving a BMW faces hundreds of dollars in tickets and towing fees after cops caught him cruising at double the speed limit in Oak Bay.

Officers on active speed enforcement Oct. 12 visually observed a northbound 2024 BMW I4 travelling at high speed in the 50 km/h zone in the 2900-block of Foul Bay Road. A speed device confirmed the car was cruising at 116 km/h.

The 18-year-old driver with a novice driving licence was ticketed for excessive speed, which comes with a $483 fine, and the vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days.

It was among the 77 calls for service to the Oak Bay police the week of Oct. 7 to 13 according to the department’s weekly release.

Stolen truck picked up in Victoria

On alert for intoxication

Blowing a ‘warn’ was enough to net a driver a three-day driving ban after being stopped by Oak Bay police on Oct. 11 around 10:30 p.m.

Officers were doing a road check on Oak Bay Avenue near Elgin Avenue specifically targeting impaired drivers when they detected the smell of alcohol on a 28-year-old driver’s breath. The man provided a breath sample that showed a ‘warn’ and he was issued a three-day driving prohibition. The vehicle he was driving was towed and impounded for three days.
