The elected Ontario government reduced Toronto city council to 25 councillors and one mayor back in 2018. This was challenged in the Supreme Court of Canada, and the decision was that it was OK for the elected provincial government to make this decision.

Policy changes that allow all citizens, regardless of gender or sexual orientation, to participate fully in military service, is vital to maintaining a military both representative of Canada’s population and having, among its ranks, individuals with the talents and strengths needed to successfully defend the country against 21st century threats.

On Sept. 30, our community took an important step forward. Hundreds of us gathered in front of the Sno’uyutth Welcome Pole on the grounds of Oak Bay High School to “spread good energy,” honour the survivors of residential schools and their families, and remember the children who did not come home. Thank you to everyone who ignored the cold and rain on Canada’s first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation to reflect, listen and learn, and take another step in our walk towards reconciliation.

I keep hearing Big Oil executives and their friends in Ottawa talk about a transition off of fossil fuels taking decades and decades. Sure, it’s true we’re not going to shut off the oil taps tomorrow, but this kind of delayed transition is dangerous. In fact, you could call it a new form of climate denial.

We had a dangerous incident with a large dog on an extended leash a couple of days ago.

We need to stop fighting and start uniting.
