LETTER: Proportional representation campaign merely a huge expense

Having devoted $14.5 million in an abortive attempt to a fundamental change in our provincial electoral system only to find that political stunt to have failed miserably; perhaps the leaders of the New Democratic and Green Parties may soon be given a lesson in laws governing election expenses.

LETTER: Urban trees’ benefits outweigh their risks

LETTER: Urban trees’ benefits outweigh their risks

While we sympathize with those who fear accidental death, we were dismayed to read the letter “Wind storm highlights danger of trees in urban setting.” Homeowners already have the right to remove dangerous trees, though a permit may be required. The number of deaths from falling trees in our region is extremely low . We are all far more likely to die from cancer, heart disease or stroke, car accidents or even accidental falls.

LETTER: Clearing up confusion in regards to motorcycles in the bike lanes

In response to Mr. John R Bell , I would like to clarify that I did not say it was legal for motorcycles to ride in the designated bicycle lanes. The whole point of my letter was that it is not legal, and how I was completely surprised by the attitude coming from some motorcyclists indicating that they did not care that it was illegal , they are entitled and will continue to break the law with no regard for cyclists who are supposed to be in the bike lanes.

LETTER: Technology not reliable in windstorms

The recent windstorm that struck Vancouver Island with very high winds highlighted our over–dependency upon technology. One portion of our over modern world’s reliance upon technology is in the area of weather stations. Both Gonzales and Saturna Light weather stations were knocked out by the over 90 kilometre per hour wind gusts in the storm of last week.
