Re: Mayor not in favour of low barrier housing at Oak Bay Lodge.

One reader wants the province to create a more inclusive name for B.C.

I was reading the Facebook comments on your July 8 online article “Singh calls on Trudeau to address systemic racism in police forces.”

The current health pandemic has shone a light on the cracks in many of our public systems, and BC Parks is no exception. B.C.’s provincial parks have been chronically underfunded since the early 2000s, with minimal resources to manage nearly 15 per cent of the land in our province.

I wanted to express my thoughts and concerns with Victoria Mayor Lisa Helps’ hastily made comments on housing homeless at the Oak Bay Lodge.

This letter is in response to the recent article in the Vic News “ Network of offroad trails sprawl out across Greater Victoria.”

It is now a practice, before a public event, to have an Indigenous land acknowledgement. Is this mere tokenism under the guise of “truth and reconciliation” with Indigenous communities even when our province continues to have a colonial name, flag and coat-of-arms?

Oak Bay must do more, says writer

In the July 2020 edition of the Grumpy Taxpayers of Greater Victoria newsletter there is a call for to “fundamentally reform the municipal government.”

The majority of Saanich council has clearly lost control of what they were elected to do – provide the sound local governmental decisions in accordance with the priorities of those who elected them.
