I write this letter with anger.

It is really quite unbelievable that we elect councillors such as Zac de Vries with the thought that he, in the face of a catastrophic pandemic taking tens of thousands of lives and tens of millions of jobs around the world to date, would make such an outrageous comment that “a pandemic is not climate action.”

We are starting to see the devastating financial cost of the current COVID-19 crisis, and things will probably get worse.

The longer this crisis continues the more the need will be.

Humans generally do not like change. We get accustomed to a sense of normalcy and want to hold on. However, adaptation and change have been constants since we began walking on two legs.

Sitting here on Good Friday, I am heartily disgusted at the evidence of “out of town” travellers plying our roads, islands and ferries at Easter time.

In this age of physical distancing as a result of this virus, there seems to be the notion that the density of our cities and towns is a problem. Let me ask the followers of this notion a question.

To salute all the first responders I have composed a new song. The music is supplied by the top pop group of Vienna: Ludwig and the Danube Boys. Ludwig has dedicated the tune to his ninth girlfriend after she had loaned him a few schillings to tide him over when work was few and he was moonlighting. It’s called Owed to Joy .
