To salute all the first responders I have composed a new song. The music is supplied by the top pop group of Vienna: Ludwig and the Danube Boys. Ludwig has dedicated the tune to his ninth girlfriend after she had loaned him a few schillings to tide him over when work was few and he was moonlighting. It’s called Owed to Joy .

In the beginning, when our world view went upside down, people indicated things felt surreal. They felt unfocused, absent minded and panicky. As the weeks have gone by, it is clearer that this is a profound time full of radical shifts and transitions. We are challenged to see our world, our selves in new ways continuously. This can be disorienting. How can we work with this?

Some grocery stores have temporarily banned reusable shopping bags due to their risk of transmitting COVID-19. Fortunately the Victoria city bylaw that forbid businesses from providing plastic bags was struck down by the B.C. Court of Appeal last year, otherwise stores might not now have plastic bags for us to use.

Among the activities for children while school is cancelled is making things.

I would just like to say what a great job the owners and employees at Village Foods are doing in these trying times.

Hand washing and social distancing are only part of the solution to the COVID-19 pandemic.
