LETTER: Blanket approvals open door to short-term rentals

LETTER: Blanket approvals open door to short-term rentals

Once upon a time, there was a lovely heritage house situated on a double lot on St. Patrick Street in the District of Oak Bay. The family that bought this old house consisted of two young professionals who attested they loved the old house as much as the previous owners who had happily lived there for many years. After living in the house for a short time, the new owners decided that they really wanted a more modern house.

LETTER: Carnarvon kids in a pickle

While walking my dog on Sept 8, I walked around the lacrosse box and was disheartened by the signage upon the entrance. No skateboards, no street hockey, pickleballers only, with posted times. It might as well have said “No Children.”
LETTER: Costs have to be part of the equation

LETTER: Costs have to be part of the equation

Two things were evident to me from viewing Oak Bay council’s Sept. 8 public hearing.

LETTER: Ask tough questions of candidates in municipal election

LETTER: Sidney council should pump brakes on roundabout commitment

LETTER: Require permits for on-street parking

LETTER: Require permits for on-street parking

What if the requirement for parking were tied to the vehicle, rather than the driver’s residence? Seriously, doesn’t that make sense? Parking should be attached to the car, not the house. No vehicle? No parking needed.
LETTER: Sidney needs better highway access

LETTER: Sidney needs better highway access

As a resident who lives at the north end of Sidney, it has become increasingly difficult to access the highway or the businesses on the west side of it.
LETTER: Driven to distraction by Dallas Road view

LETTER: Driven to distraction by Dallas Road view

I have lived on Dallas Road for 10 years. The speed limit is 50 km/h on Dallas Road. And yet, on a daily basis, there is always some driver so distracted by the view that they believe it is OK to drive at 30 km/h or less. It is not OK.
LETTER: Oak Bay needs to listen to Songhees Chief Ron Sam

LETTER: Oak Bay needs to listen to Songhees Chief Ron Sam

Letter writer Keith Brown (Aug. 20) suggests that Chief Ron Sam of the Songhees Nation is being unfair to Oak Bay council when he says that his Nation wasn’t given respect as a government in Oak Bay’s process to determine the future of the marina/Spewhung (Turkey Head) lands, waters and buildings over the last two years and that the process itself was “obnoxious.”
