LETTER: Fraud in North Saanich city hall needs to be exposed

As a resident of North Saanich I was shocked to find out about the enormous waste of tax dollars being wasted on North Saanich’s Chief Administrative Officer .
Letter: Affordable housing could be out of reach for many

Letter: Affordable housing could be out of reach for many

Recently the provincial government announced that it would be supporting a $201M student housing project at the University of Victoria . For 620 units, that equals $324,193 per unit, not including the land cost, which would add at least another $100,000 per unit, or about $425,000 per unit.

LETTER: Scofflaw cyclists will cause harm

As I’m sure all of our tourism fixated community is well aware, Nov. 22 is American Thanksgiving, and despite our miserable weather, there were a number of American visitors on our downtown streets.

LETTER: North Saanich council needs accountability

I couldn’t agree more with Joscelyn Barnard’s assessment of the situation at North Saanich municipality.
LETTER: Decisive action needed on Oak Bay deer population

LETTER: Decisive action needed on Oak Bay deer population

I want to thank the mayor and council for the hard work and effort each of you put into the community. I am loath to add to your plate, but the increased Oak Bay deer population is a severe accident waiting to happen.
LETTER: Pedestrians face the wrath of cyclists everyday

LETTER: Pedestrians face the wrath of cyclists everyday

LETTER: A citizen’s watchdog would keep the legislature in order

So Premier Horgan was unaware for 10 months that the speaker he’d personally appointed was conducting a secret investigation in the B.C. legislature . If this isn’t plausible deniability, then it’s certainly long past the time when the premier should have been woke.
LETTER: Security and transparency will be lost with internet voting

LETTER: Security and transparency will be lost with internet voting

I disagree with your editorial advocating internet voting . I think you make a mistake by identifying the problem of low voter turnout as convenience rather than engagement. If someone is engaged enough about the issues, they will make the small effort to visit a polling station. If they aren’t engaged enough to do that, I’m not sure I want them to have a voice in electing my government.
LETTER: Trees provide an essential service

LETTER: Trees provide an essential service

We congratulate Victoria’s mayor and council on their decision to push the pause button on the Crystal Pool project that would have seen 20 to 26 of Central Park’s magnificent, mature trees cut down, and others heavily pruned. Some of these species could potentially live another 100 to 200 years or more.
LETTER: Give Pro Rep a chance

LETTER: Give Pro Rep a chance

According to electoral reform experts Pro Rep would hold parties working together far more accountable. Far more eyes would be observing who was spending what and what it was for. There would be no more claiming by governments to have a balanced budget when you do not. And no more taking projects past the point of no return.
